Title:	Senior Data Development Engineer

Compete is looking for a Senior Data Development Engineer to join our team. Working for Compete enables you to work on products that touch 100s of 1000s of users. Our environment is fast-paced using user-centered, iterative design and development methodologies.

You will be focused on creating software and solutions for robust reporting and tracking of Compete’s key business inputs.  Working within the Data and Research team, this position requires the ability to interact with many different types of individuals, including executives, engineers, analysts, and other business professionals.  The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of field experience dealing with large data volumes and a track record of creative problem solving and innovation.

Specific responsibilities include:

• You will work in a small group within a start-up environment.
• You will own and manage data development projects while working in parallel on collaborative projects with other departments.
• You will prepare and develop custom or specific data deliverables to meet development timelines and/or on an on-demand basis.
• You will ensure accuracy of results of data analysis and data deliverables by enforcing data integrity rules and software development best practices.
• You will participate in data-related projects, including but not limited to data normalization, data maintenance, data research, data standardization, data product development, and data quality assurance.
• You will maintain our database dictionaries, monitoring of standards and procedures, and organizational and statistical methods.
• You will help make key decisions regarding data architecture, data tool design, and project sizing.
• You will work within a Linux and open-source environment.

Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent.
• 7+ years of software development experience; specifically in the areas of Data analysis or Business intelligence.
• Strong Python or Perl experience.
• Excellent UNIX and Windows skills, including shell scripting.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, particularly MySQL.
• Statistical and data analysis experience.
• Knowledge of new emerging data technologies a plus (e.g. Hadoop).
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
