Title:	Data Reporting Engineer - 6 month+ contract

Compete is looking for a Data Reporting Engineer to join our team in a consulting capacity through the end of 2011. This position may become eligible for a permanent role in 2012. We are looking for a bright, energetic, detail oriented Engineer to improve our internal data reporting capabilities. You will need to create efficient processes for improving our standardized reporting while being flexible enough to support multiple customized data reporting requests. This is a hands-on position requiring someone who enjoys getting their hands dirty with data. The people working here at Compete are passionate about the quality of work and the integrity of the data. We want someone who is like-minded to be on our team.
 
Here’s what you’d be doing:

• Working with a small team within a start-up environment.
• Work within a Linux and open-source environment.
• Manage standardized data reporting projects while working in parallel on customized reporting requests from multiple stakeholders.
• Prepare and develop data deliverables to meet development timelines and/or on an on-demand basis.
• Ensure accuracy of results of data analysis and data deliverables by enforcing data integrity rules and software development best practices.
• Participate in data-related projects, including but not limited to data normalization, data maintenance, data research, data standardization, data product development, and data quality assurance.

Important things to have:

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent.
• 1-4 years of software development experience; specifically in the areas of Data analysis or Business intelligence.
• Familiarity with Python
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux, including shell scripting.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Other cool things to know/skills to have:

• Knowledge of new emerging data technologies a plus (e.g. Hadoop).
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum a plus.
•  Data analysis experience.
• Basic knowledge of statistics and mathematic principles.
