Compete Releases Top Insurance and Physician Web Sites for June 2009
Consumers Compare Plans to Save Money and Rate Doctors on Service
BOSTON – (July
28, 2009) –
Compete, a TNS Media company, today released its ranking of the top ten
Insurance and Physician sites for June 2009, which is based on data
from the company’s panel of two million US-based internet
users. In the past month, overall unique visitors (UVs) to
Insurance and Physician sites increased by 3.5 percent, and the
category saw an 7.011.6 percent traffic increase over June
2008. The top ten destinations in the category include
physician rating sites - healthgrades.com and vitals.com - and
insurance plan comparison services - ehealthinsurance.com and
dentalplans.com. Rounding out the top ten are government-run
medicare.gov and four branded insurance company homepages.

The impact of the recession is
driving consumers to insurance cost comparison sites. 1.07
million visitors analyzed their health insurance options at
ehealthinsurance.com in June 2009, 32.6 percent more than at the same
time in 2008. In the dental market, dentalplans.com drew 58.3 percent
more traffic than May 2009, with more than 600,000 visitors interested
in unearthing the most affordable dental care.

Referrals
Social recommendations drove online healthcare traffic in June
2009. Nearly 3 million consumers evaluated doctor ratings at
healthgrades.com, which grew 7.7 percent month-over-month to become the
top ranking site in the category. Recommendation and rating
site Vitals.com drew more than 631,590 unique visitors, 227 percent
more than in June 2008.
The Obama Effect
The recent news spotlight on national healthcare reform also helped
drive consumers to research government-sponsored healthcare
initiatives. More than 946,000 visitors stopped at
medicare.gov, an increase of 5 percent over June 2008.
